Home / Services / Emergency Board-Up in Toronto
Unsafe, exposed or unsecured openings

Secure the opening first when broken glass creates an immediate hazard

Emergency cover is a temporary safety and security measure, not the final glass repair. The estimator collects the opening type, size, exposure, remaining glass, access and urgency so the request can be routed appropriately.

Recognize the scope

Know when the priority is temporary protection, not same-day fabrication

Custom insulated or tempered glass is rarely available instantly. When an opening is exposed, unsecured or shedding glass, temporary board-up or another protective measure may be needed before the final replacement is measured and fabricated.

People should stay clear of unstable shards and overhead glass. The online form helps organize the request, but emergencies involving injury, fire, active crime or immediate public danger should be directed to the appropriate emergency service.

Planning rule: homeowner measurements and photos support the online range, but custom manufacturing dimensions and specifications must be confirmed before ordering.

Choose the condition that best matches what you see

Do not worry if you do not know the technical glass or hardware name. The estimator uses the visible condition first, then asks for the details that matter.

Exposed storefront

Exposed storefront

Commercial openings may need public-area control, cleanup and temporary security.

Broken residential window

An exposed opening may require cover while custom glass is being produced.

Entry door or sidelite

Security and weather exposure can make temporary protection the first step.

Submit photos only from a safe distance and describe loose or hanging glass.

Range logic

Urgent work is shaped by safety and site conditions

The range can change with opening size, remaining shards, access, time of day, material required, cleanup and whether a return visit is needed for final replacement.

01
Hazard levelLoose shards, overhead glass, public exposure and active breakage affect the response plan.
02
Opening sizeLarge storefronts and door systems require more material, labour and bracing.
03
Access & timingAfter-hours access, parking, elevators, security and traffic control can add complexity.
04
Temporary scopeBoard-up, interior cover, exterior cover, cleanup and weather protection are different tasks.
Information that narrows the range

Four inputs that prevent one-size-fits-all pricing

Known dimensions, product construction and site conditions produce a tighter planning range. Unknown answers remain available, but the result may be wider.

Range input 1Hazard level

Loose shards, overhead glass, public exposure and active breakage affect the response plan.

Range input 2Opening size

Large storefronts and door systems require more material, labour and bracing.

Range input 3Access & timing

After-hours access, parking, elevators, security and traffic control can add complexity.

Range input 4Temporary scope

Estimate to confirmation

A practical process before custom material is ordered

1

Keep people away

Do not touch unstable glass. Isolate the area and provide photos only from a safe position.

Urgent request review
2

Describe the opening

Identify residential or commercial use, size, exposure, remaining glass, access and contact information.

Prepared field crew
3

Secure, then plan replacement

Temporary protection is completed first when needed. Final glass is measured, specified and scheduled separately.

Toronto and GTA conditions

Storefronts, doors and upper-floor windows require different controls

A ground-floor residential pane may be protected differently from a public-facing storefront or balcony opening. The route must consider pedestrians, interior occupancy, weather, security, landlord or property-manager access and safe disposal of broken material.

Frequently asked questions

What to know before requesting the estimate

Is board-up the final repair?

No. It is a temporary safety, security or weather-protection measure. Final glass normally requires separate measurement, specification and fabrication.

Can broken custom glass be replaced the same day?

Usually not when the replacement is insulated, tempered, laminated, shaped or otherwise custom. Temporary protection may be the immediate step.

Should I remove loose glass myself?

Do not handle unstable, overhead or large broken glass without proper training and equipment. Keep people clear and describe the condition from a safe distance.

What information is needed for urgent routing?

Provide the address, contact number, opening type, approximate size, photos from a safe location, whether the property is secure and any access restrictions.

Does the estimate include after-hours charges?

Urgency and timing are collected because after-hours availability and labour may affect the final price. The online range is not a guarantee of immediate attendance.
